Brothers and Sisters Local Union 443 will be moving this weekend and will be conducting business starting Monday, February 28, 2011 at our new office located at 1469 Jean Street, Montgomery, AL 36107. The officers and staff of Local 443 are pleased to announce that we will be conducting our 2nd Annual Pin Ceremony and Cookout on July 10, 2010. This event will recognize those members that have reached 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 years of service with presentations of Years of Service Pins. This year we are honored to announce that Brother Rufus Grantham will be receiving his 50 Year Pin.
Local 443 hosted its 1st annual retiree luncheon on March 18, 2010. The turnout exceeded all expectations with over 70 retirees, spouses, friends, and guest attending the event.
Brother James McGowan Jr. was the oldest retiree in attendance at age 89. He also had the oldest ticket, being initiated on May 1, 1942.
Last spring the state AFL-CIO held its first ever Road Kill BBQ to show organized labor appreciation to our friends in state government. The event was so well received the leadership of the state federation decided to make it an annual event.
On March 23, 2010 the second annual Road Kill BBQ was held again at the headquarters of the state AFL-CIO on McDonough Street in downtown Montgomery. This year all twelve food booths were manned by labor organizations affiliated with the AFL-CIO.
